Welcome along to our latest weekly roundup article. This week we look at how our outdoor running sessions and virtual running groups are going; the launch of two new (and free) virtual running events over the weekend of 20th/21st June and look forward to the first RTW runners virtual running event!
Outdoor running drills & interval sessions
We provided another four outdoor running group sessions – 3 in Southborough and 1 in Forest Row. Groups are suitable for all abilities of runner, including beginners. Each session involves a jog warm-up followed by some short running drills using low hurdles and ladders which help to improve running form and speed. A main interval session of 20 minutes is then completed which involces running intervals of between 30 seconds and 3 minutes in duration with walk/jog recoveries between repititions. The session then concludes with a gentle jog cool down and some stretches.
If you would like to join one of our group sessions then please visit our RunTogether groups page for days, times and locations. Group sizes are limited to 5 people in line with the current Covid19 guidance which applies to England and social distancing measures are in place at all times.
Virtual running groups
Our “Zero to 30” group completed week 4 of their 8-week plan. This week involved 3 x 7 minute jog, 3 minute walk repititions (total of 30 minutes). The group came together for their weekly catch-up on Sunday morning on Zoom and everyone is progressing well.
Our “all abilities” group completed their main “90-90” interval session during the week. Next week sees them complete a 5km “double-decker sandwich” – good luck all!
This week saw the launch of (not) parkrun. This is a virtual parkrun run on any day of the week, at a time which suite you and on a course of your choice. Once you have completed your 5km, just log the time by visiting your parkrun profile.
Results for those who have “Royal Tunbridge Wells” parkrun as their home event are shown below, with a few familiar names.
The weekend of 20th and 21st June saw the launch of the Weekly30 Run Challenge. This is a free weekly event which encourages runners to cover as much distance as they can within 30 minutes on a course and at a time of day of their choice on a Saturday or Sunday.
This first weekend saw 5 of our runners enter the challenge and we await results!
If you would like to enter next week’s event then please visit the OpenTrack website to register.
