RTW runners weekly roundup – w/c 1st June 2020

Welcome to our latest weekly round-up in which we take a look at how our virtual running groups are going, who ran in team RTW runners on Global Running Day, the return of outdoor running group sessions & finally, a FREE running event which we are organising for the first weekend of July!

Virtual running groups

The week commencing 1st June saw our two virtual groups embark on their second weekly session. Our beginners were provided with a main session of 6 intervals of 2 minutes jogging, 3 minutes walking, either side of a 5 minute walk warm-up and cool down, whilst our all abilities group were provided with a 30 minute interval “pyramid” session!

Fiona shared her joy of completing week 2 of our “Zero to 30” beginners group

Both groups seemed to manage well and most of them caught up with one another and group leader Joe on their weekly Zoom group chat on Sunday morning. If you would like to join in with either of these virtual groups then please visit our RunTogether groups page where you will also find details and booking information for all of our runs.

Global Running Day – Wednesday 3rd June

The first Wednesday in June marks Global Running Day and we had encouraged our runners to pledge to run at least 1 mile on this day as a way of celebrating and coming together, albeit virtually! It was great to see so many out and about, logging their runs on our Strava club, including Imogen, Jim & Helen, Rose, Gem, Claire and Joe.

Outdoor running group sessions return!

Thursday 4th June saw the return of outdoor running group sessions in Southborough thanks to the ease in lockdown restrictions which came into force from Monday 1st June. Two separate groups of 5 people participated in a running drills and interval session on Southborough Common with the first session at 5.15-6.15pm and the second at 6.30-7.30pm.

Our next outdoor group session will be on Wednesday 10th June, 6.30-7.30pm at the Memorial Pavilion sports ground in Forest Row for which there are currently two spaces available to book.

Our Thursday evening sessions in Southborough are both fully booked, however, we are looking into the possibility of providing one, if not two more sessions in Southborough on a Monday evening from 15th June. If you are interested and would like to pre-book a place on these sessions, please e-mail group leader Joe – joewatts@plegafit.com

RTW runners 10km relay – 4th-5th July 2020

We currently have 16 people signed up for our FREE virtual two-person 10km relay event which will take place over the weekend of 4th-5th July 2020. Joe will be pairing runners based on ability, with each person to run a solo 5km at a time and day over that weekend, on a course of their choice.

The two times from each individual will be combined to provide a team total 10km result! The pairs will be picked so that the teams are as evenly balanced as possible, meaning that there will be a real sense of competition! Just to add to the fun, group leader Joe and run leader Claire will be forming a team of their own.

If you would like to participate in this FREE event, please visit the event page by midnight on Wednesday 10th June as the teams will be announced on Thursday 11th June so that everyone can begin their training. Finally, once you have registered, please send an e-mail to joewatts@plegafit.com confirming your estimated 5km time.
