Welcome to what will be our regular monthly roundup of all things to do with our running group. We have decided to move to a monthly as opposed to a weekly roundup due to the fact that there are fewer events to report on during this Pandemic.
This month we look at the results of our latest virtual running challenge and announce details of our next challenge which will take place over the August bank holiday weekend! We also take a look at the options which are available to you over the Autumn and Winter months with our outdoor running groups and virtual running groups.
Royal Tunbridge Wells (not)parkrun results
In the absence of parkrun events (not)parkrun is an opportunity for parkrunners to submit a 5k walk, jog or run, on a route of their choosing, on a day and time of their choice, wherever they are in the World and following appropriate guidelines for physical activity wherever they’re based. You can record up to one activity per day, with your fastest time each week included in a weekly results table.
A special mention goes to Richard Woodfield who was the only RTW runner to post results in all 4 weeks of July, including a new (not)parkrun PB!
Week ending 5th July – 25:53
Week ending 12th July – 26:07
Week ending 19th July – 25:03 (PB)
Week ending 26th July – 27:32
Weekly30 Run Challenge
The Weekly30 is a free weekly virtual running challenge that encourages runners of all levels to compete each weekend whilst also enabling competition between athletics clubs, running clubs and RunTogether groups. You’ll be competing against an online community of other runners from across the country.
All you have to do to take part is register once, run as far as you can in 30 minutes over the weekend and upload your results to the OpenTrack website. The challenge takes place each and every weekend and is a good way of tracking your progress.
Outdoor running groups
We continued to provide outdoor running group sessions in Southborough and Forest Row throughout July, with group sizes increasing from 5 to 8 runners from Monday 20th July with strict social distancing measures in place.
We are now taking bookings for sessions in August and the first week of September, when our outdoor evening sessions will end due to the evenings drawing in and the fact that we have been unable to locate a suitable Covid-19 secure environment. This decision has not been taken due to the uncertainty of how the Coronavirus will act in the Autumn and Winter months. We put the health and safety of our run leaders and runners first.
However, we are pleased to confirm that we will be introducing two morning sessions in Forest Row. From the week commencing 7th September, we will be providing sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings – one for beginners and another for all abilities of runners. These sessions will take place on playing fields, where we can ensure social distancing and the provision of a Covid-19 secure environment for everyone involved.
Virtual running groups
In addition to the outdoor groups, we will continue with our virtual running groups. We have three groups to choose from – a “Zero to 30” beginners group, which will commence on Monday 7th September and our ongoing “Beginners Plus” intervals and “All abilities” intervals groups. For more information on these and booking details, please visit our RunTogether groups page.

Next up: RTW runners virtual challenge #3
The next RTW runners virtual running challenge will take place over the August bank holiday weekend and will involve teams of runners coming together to complete a marathon (26.2 miles). We would like to put together at least two teams of runners and welcome you to register for this FREE event by visiting the booking page on our RunTogether groups page. Registration is available up until midnight on Friday 21st August 2020.
Once you have registered, please send an e-mail to group leader Joe Watts (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the distance that you would like to run for the team and an estimated time for that distance. You can run as many or as few miles as you wish to help the team cover the 26.2 miles in as fast of a time as possible!
