Outdoor running group sessions in Southborough
Our all abilities outdoor running group sessions returned to Southborough on Monday 29th March 2021 in line with the Government’s easing of lockdown, with sessions catering for up to 12 people. Sessions were provided in a “Covid-secure environment” with social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of runners and run leaders. Over the Spring and Summer months, group leader Joe Watts provided a total of 21 weekly sessions on the Ridgeway playing fields in Southborough and welcomed almost 50 different people during that period. In addition to the above, run leader Claire Henry provided an 8-week “Zero to 30” beginners running group before introducing a weekly social run – both groups proving popular and catering for all ages and abilities of runner.
Our final evening session took place on Monday 23rd August as we are beginning to lose the light in the evenings now. We are looking into options going forward and may provide a weekly group run on a Sunday morning in addition to some ad-hoc monthly all abilities sessions, so watch this space! In the meantime, why not continue running weekly with our virtual running groups – read on for more information.
Virtual running groups return
As our all abilities outdoor running group sessions came to an end on Monday 23rd August, we are pleased to announce the return of our popular virtual running groups.
Each weekly session costs £5 per person and for this registrants will receive a planned interval session to complete any time during that week. There will also be the option to attend a Sunday morning weekly group catch-up via Zoom where you can share your experience with fellow runners and ask group leader Joe Watts for tips and advice.
In addition to our virtual all abilities group we shall be running a virtual beginners “Zero to 30” group. Commencing on Monday 1st November 2021, our successful and popular plan will take beginners from zero running experience to running for 30 minutes continuously by the end of the 8 weeks and just in time for Christmas!
You can sign up for the virtual running group sessions via our RunTogether groups page and for those who sign up before the end of August, we are offering a 20% discount for booking 4 or more sessions.
The return of parkrun
On 24th July, parkrun events in England restarted after a 16 month absence. A reminder that you can assign “RTW runners” as your running club within your parkrun profile and each week you can view which of our members have been running at parkrun events. Visit the consolidated club report here. Last Saturday (21st August) saw a total of 11 RTW runners running at 5 different parkruns across England.
RTW runners parkrun on tour
We invite you to join group leader Joe Watts and run leader Claire Henry on Saturday 11th September at a parkrun venue TBC (possibly Bedgebury or Tonbridge). This is a chance to meet up with fellow RTW runners and (for those who have them), where your exclusive RTW runners club vest. If you have not yet registered with parkrun it is free to do and need only be done once. Upon registration you will receive a personalised barcode which you need to bring along with you each time you attend parkrun in order to receive your result. These free, volunteer-led events take place each Saturday at 9am at venues all across the country and welcome walkers, joggers, recreational runners and Olympians alike.
Strava running grop
Connect with fellow RTW runners on Strava by joining our exlusive group. We currently have 44 members of all abilities from those going out for a 5k plod, up to those training for marathons and beyond. You can request to join our Strava club here.
Thank you for taking the time to read our blog post and don’t forget that you can connect with us in various ways – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Strava and WhatsApp, so please be sure to keep in touch and share your runs and photos with us!
